Dear colleague,
If you’re eligible for work-sharing (see this list of reasons you might be ineligible), we want you to have all the information you need to register with the state Department of Labor when you get your letter from University Human Resources (UHR) confirming that you will be participating in work-sharing. UHR is holding one more info session this morning, and our union will follow up with our own sessions today and tomorrow, with a Q&A session on Monday morning (with more to come throughout next week).
DON’T try to file for unemployment yet. You cannot file until you receive an email from UHR confirming your participation and giving you detailed instructions about how to register. The earliest we can begin applying is Sunday, April 18; trying to apply sooner will cause errors and delays. We will have a full week to apply (and potentially longer if you need it), so don’t worry that you are missing a deadline if you wait.
You can get answers to the questions we’ve heard most often on our Work-Sharing and Furloughs FAQ. If you have questions that aren’t answered there, email us at aaup@rutgersaaup.org.
For some of you, the procedure for determining who is ineligible for work-sharing has been confusing and inconsistent, and we’re working to fix this. We have asked management for a simple process for any faculty who are mistakenly included in work-sharing and will update you with details of who to contact if you are incorrectly included. For now, you can consult your department and/or email us at aaup@rutgersaaup.org if you have a concern or question about your eligibility.
In solidarity,
Todd and Becky
