September 19 at 12 Noon-2 PM
Solidarity Rally
during President McCormick's Annual Address
(The address begins 1:10 PM)
In front of Rutgers Student Center
126 College Avenue
New Brunswick, NJ 08901
There are two reasons to come to this rally:
1. To stand in solidarity with the Union of Rutgers Administrators (URA-AFT) who are fighting layoffs that have been carried out in violation of their contract
2. To show support for the Rutgers instructors who teach in summer/winter sessions who are finding that they are in for a fight with the RU administration as they finalize the voting procedure for union recognition. Summer/winter session instructors signed union authorization cards this summer and have filed them with the New Jersey Public Employee Relations Commission (PERC) who will conduct the vote count (also known as "card check").
Solidarity now helps to prepare the stage when the group moves into negotiation over the working conditions for summer/winter session teaching. Currently, RU administration wants to exclude those who have not taught 4 semesters in a row, which would effectively prevent graduate students from having the right to have their votes count and might eventually deny them representation.
Free Rutgers AAUP-AFT shirts for activists who come to the rally!
