Frequently Asked Questions on the Faculty Reinvestment Program (prepared by Rutgers administration)
AAUP-AFT members ratified the Memorandum of Agreement with the Administration on the “Faculty Reinvestment Program” on April 8, 2010. Though it is quite different from the union’s previous proposal for a phased retirement program, it is a negotiated agreement that we hope to improve upon in the future.
Note: NTT Faculty
are included in the Agreement on the Faculty Reinvestment Program
, if they meet the criteria other than being tenured.
What started as a “pilot” program proposed by the Administration for tenured faculty only in SAS-NB is now a negotiated, university-wide program that covers all eligible faculty, including NTTs.
Academic units cannot opt-out as a whole, as proposed by the Administration. Deans must follow criteria if they are to deny or defer an otherwise eligible faculty member.
We can’t say if this program is right for you, though we encourage you to take a close look at it. In these difficult economic times, each eligible faculty member will need to decide if the benefits outweigh any risks. We invite you to contact the AAUP-AFT if you have questions regarding the details of this program. We encourage you to raise any noneconomic issues with your dean before applying for the program.
