Resolution passed by the Executive Council of the Rutgers Council of AAUP Chapters, AAUP-AFT on March 22, 2006 in support of the DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act Rally, March 30, 2006:
Whereas: Growing active and engaged student support for Rutgers AAUP/AFT initiatives will be important in the future, and
Whereas, The Rutgers student organization Latino Unidos En Poder (LUEP) is sponsoring and coordinating a Rally in Trenton on March 30th in support of the Federal DREAM Act and New Jersey In-State tuition bills S436 & A245, which advocate for allowing a student who is also an undocumented immigrant to pay in-state tuition at the State’s public institutions of higher education, and
Whereas, the student would be eligible if he or she: has “attended a high school in this State for three years or more; graduated from a high school in this State or attained the equivalent of a high school diploma in the State; registers as an entering student or is currently enrolled in a public institution of higher education not earlier than the fall semester of the 2002-03 academic year; and files an affidavit with the institution of higher education stating that the student has filed an application to legalize his immigration status or will file an application as soon as he is eligible to do so.”
Therefore be it resolved, that the Rutgers AAUP-AFT Executive Council supports S436 & A245, and
Be it further resolved, that the Rutgers AAUP-AFT endorses the March 30th DREAM Act Rally and
Be it finally resolved, that the Rutgers AAUP-AFT shall encourage faculty members, students, and the administration to support and participate in this historic event.
