2011 Tax preparation information:

Union dues are tax deductible, if you itemize. The year-end grand total is found on the last paycheck in December, listed on the pay stub under Deductions. This grand total amount of dues paid is not found on the Rutgers W-2 because the University does not consider it an IRS item.

Students who make anonymous online threats against faculty can no longer assume that their privacy is absolute. A grievance filed with regard to threatening comments made to faculty through the on-line instructional ratings form has resulted in changes to the form.

2011-2012 Undergrad Tuition

Rutgers Board of Governors voted to reduce the undergrad tuition rate by half on July 14, 2011: Breaking with tradition, the BOG voted against President McCormick's proposed 3.65% increase, making the new rate only 1.6% more this year (1.8% with student fees).

Legislative Issues:

Retirement Cap on ABP Employer Contributions This law passed in the New Jersey Legislature in 2010. Resolution of this issue is part of the salary freeze settlement/ new contract package sent to members for a ratification vote.

NJ Residency Requirement: Full-time and part-time faculty, teaching/graduate assistants, and many other employees at NJ colleges and universities are exempt from the law that requires state employees to live in New Jersey. New hires who are not higher education faculty and are hired after September 1, 2011 will be required to live in New Jersey unless they can prove a hardship.
